The same lights do every holiday and celebration, a birthday, Flames game nights, and plain warm white the rest of the year when you just want the house to look finished after dark. You pick a scene or set a schedule in the app. Nobody goes outside.
The lights work through a Calgary winter; the install is what depends on the weather. Book in September or October and it's usually quick. In mid-November everybody calls at once, the days are short and the fascia is icy, and that means waiting.
The lights mount into your soffit and fascia: the underside of the roof overhang and the board along its edge that holds your eavestrough. Every clip is a hole in the part of the house that keeps water out. Fastened wrong, water gets behind the fascia and you find out when the board rots a few winters later. We're already the people responsible for that part of your house.
It's roofline lighting. It won't light your trees, your walkway or your garden beds; that's landscape lighting, a different system. And it stays on the house, which is the point, but keep it in mind if you're planning to move soon.
Permanent roofline lighting is four parts: a slim channel mounted along the roof edge, a run of LEDs inside it that can each be set to their own colour, a low-voltage power supply, and a controller you run from an app. It stays up year-round, and the connectors, seals and electronics usually limit its life more than the LEDs do.
Permanent lights should fasten into sound fascia or solid soffit below the metal drip edge at the roof's edge, never through your shingles or roof deck, and stay clear of the soffit vents your attic breathes through. On a Calgary roof edge, where water drains and ice builds every winter, every fastener also has to be sealed.
The track system is designed to be hard to see by day. It sits in a low-profile channel under the roofline and from the street reads as a shadow line. The smart LED system isn't hidden the same way, so ask which one suits your house.
LEDs at this scale draw very little. Running the roofline nightly is not a meaningful line on a power bill, and the controller draws a trickle when idle.
The lights are built for outdoor winter use, which in Alberta is the point of buying them. Installation is what's weather-dependent, not operation.
Not from us. You own the hardware and the app controls it. Some systems in this category do tie features to an ongoing fee, so ask any bidder directly whether anything requires a subscription to keep working.
Each light is controlled on its own, so a failure is usually one segment rather than the whole run, and it's replaced in place. The hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty and our workmanship is separate from it. Both are on your proposal and your final invoice.
