- AIRDRIE
Named directly in the June 13, 2020 hail event alongside Calgary and Rocky View County. That storm was one of Canada's costliest hailstorms, at almost $1.2 billion insured. If an Airdrie roof hasn't been looked at since, that's the likely date of loss.
- BEARSPAW
Rocky View County, immediately northwest of the city. Rocky View County was named in the June 13, 2020 event, though the published data doesn't say which parts of the county. Acreage roofs out here are often bigger and steeper, where damage is harder to see from the ground.
- CONRICH
Also Rocky View County, on the east side, with the same 2020 storm footprint as Airdrie and the rest of the county. A mix of acreages and newer builds, so roof ages vary a lot street to street.
- CHESTERMERE
Not named in the published loss data for any of the four big insured events, though it sits right beside areas that were. That's worth knowing before you file: without a city-wide event on your date of loss, the documentation on your claim has to carry more weight.
- COCHRANE
Not named in the published loss data for the four big insured events, but Environment Canada reported hail about 5 cm across in Cochrane on August 5, 2024. Wind is the other common story out this way.
- OKOTOKS
Not named in the published loss data for the four big insured events. On July 17, 2023, loonie-sized hail fell near Okotoks under a tornado warning for Foothills County, according to OkotoksOnline.
- HIGH RIVER
South of Calgary on Highway 2, and part of our regular service area. Not named in the published loss data for the four big insured events, but the July 17, 2023 tornado warning for Foothills County covered High River, according to OkotoksOnline.
- STRATHMORE
Named directly in the August 5, 2024 event alongside northern Calgary. That's the costliest hailstorm in Canadian history, at $3.35 billion insured (CatIQ final estimate, August 2026). If a Strathmore roof hasn't been looked at since, August 5, 2024 is the likely date of loss.
