Permanent roofline lighting is three things: a channel, a strip of LEDs that seats into it, and a controller. The channel is a slim rail fastened under your roofline. The controller is a small weatherproof box, usually near an outdoor outlet, that connects to your wifi so the app can run it.
That's the whole system, whichever brand it is. Everything else (the scenes, the schedules, the holiday presets) is software on top of it.

Colours, brightness, patterns, zones and schedules, plus preset scenes for holidays and celebrations. Most people have it figured out in ten minutes. The thing worth asking any installer, including us, is whether anything needs a subscription to keep working. Some systems gate features behind a fee.
This is where installers differ most. Alberta's Safety Codes Act governs electrical work, and the low-voltage exemption people cite is narrower than it's often presented. How we handle it: where an installation needs permitted electrical work (a new circuit, a panel change, anything past a straightforward connection to an existing outdoor outlet), it's done by a licensed electrician under permit. Where it doesn't, we install it ourselves and tell you that's what we're doing. Ask any bidder exactly how the power connection will be made and who is making it.
Permanent roofline lighting is four parts: a slim channel mounted along the roof edge, a run of LEDs inside it that can each be set to their own colour, a low-voltage power supply, and a controller you run from an app. It stays up year-round, and the connectors, seals and electronics usually limit its life more than the LEDs do.
Permanent lights should fasten into sound fascia or solid soffit below the metal drip edge at the roof's edge, never through your shingles or roof deck, and stay clear of the soffit vents your attic breathes through. On a Calgary roof edge, where water drains and ice builds every winter, every fastener also has to be sealed.
Usually it runs off an existing outdoor circuit, because the draw is small. Whether your panel and circuit can carry it is something to check on site. If it needs a dedicated circuit, that's an electrician's job and it goes on the quote as its own line.
Schedules are stored on the controller, so the lights keep running their programme. What you lose is remote control until it reconnects.
Generally yes, as long as the controller has capacity. Mention it at design time if you'll want the back of the house done eventually, because it affects the controller we spec.
A site visit, then a written quote, then scheduling. In September and October that's usually quick. In mid-November everybody in Calgary calls at once and it isn't.
